With the help of models this paper develops a theory of orthotropic plates circular in plan, simply supported on two radial edges, with general conditions for curved edges and all possible elastic characteristics. It also gives an example of a bridge deck solved as a function of this theory using a digital computer with a central memory of 16 K bites, whose reduced capacity guarantees the validity of the method. Attention is drawn to the difference in deformation and stress between the curved edges, which is due to the larger bearing capacity of the outer edge, hence a larger flexibility and an improvement in transverse distribution coefficient.
