November 2005 Traffic Deaths Up 7 Percent
Motor vehicle traffic deaths rose 7 percent during November 2005, totaling 4,090 compared to the November 2004 figure of 3,820. Disabling injuries in 2005 through November totaled close to 2.2 million, up 2 percent from 2004. The cost of motor vehicle collisions for 2005 rose 2 percent from 2004, to a total of close to $222.2 billion. The estimated annual mileage death rate rose 7 percent from 2004 to a 1.6 deaths per 100 million miles of vehicle travel. Statistics on a statewide basis are also given.
