SMALL-SCALE SIMULATIONS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW CONCEPTS FOR AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL

The use of "small-scale" simulation in the development of a new concept for air traffic control is described. Computer programs are developed and demonstrated by the project team, for rapid informal assessment. Further, this development of the concept is interspersed with small-scale simulations, under some representative conditions and with an attempt at systematic experimental design. Some description is given to applying these techniques to the concept of "Interactive Conflict Resolution" in en-route air traffic control.
