ON THE OPTIMAL TRAJECTORY CONNECTING THE HORIZONTAL FLIGHT TO THE GLIDE PATH FOR A LANDING AIRCRAFT

The paper deals with the optimization of the trajectory of a landing aircraft: more precisely, the problem of optimizing switching from the altitude-hold mode to the glide mode. The parameters are derived by the optimal control techniques. Sum of the integral of the squared distance from the glide path and the integral of the squared derivative of the pitch angle has been assumed as performance criterion.
