COMPUTER BASED DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR AIR TERMINAL OVERLOAD MANAGEMENT

Current strategy in air terminal overload management is frequently decided on the basis of incomplete information from isolated parts of the total system. No tool exists to allow the broad consequences of alternative courses of action to be accurately identified or assessed. This can result in counterproductive and costly decisions about ground and air-borne delay. Management based on an incomplete view not only adversely affects safety but has a markedly unfavorable impact on fuel consumption. A decision support system to remedy this shortcoming is described, in which two software packages are interfaced to supplement human judgment through man-machine interaction.
