Office Location Decisions: Analysis of the Results of SOLD
Office location has an important impact on urban form and the transportation system in urban areas. One of the ways to study and model office location decisions utilizes surveys of managers and owners of office firms regarding the firm location decision process. The following paper presents an analysis of the results gathered in SOLD – a web-based retrospective survey, designed to provide some insight into the location decision making of office firms. The main conclusion of the paper is that office firms participating in the survey (mainly small and medium sized offices) exhibit more of satisfying than maximizing location decision process. Therefore office firm location decisions should be modeled using different methods than currently applied by most researchers in the field.
