This article deals with use of a method to determine optimum specifications for a road reconstruction project in Montgomery, Alabama. The project is described in more detail. The method employed is shown to minimize total reconstruction costs by selecting optimum thicknesses for various pavement layers while still meeting restrictions for the road's structural number and thickness limits for the layers.
