Determination of Reasonableness and Feasibility of Noise Abatement at a Special Use Location

The University of Central Florida developed a method to determine the reasonableness and feasibility of noise abatement at special use locations for the Florida Department of transportation. The applicability of this methodology is discussed in this paper. A case study of a project on Interstate-75 in Lee County, Florida is used to demonstrate the applicability of this method to illustrate that a proposed noise barrier wall was a reasonable and feasible abatement option. The steps used in the application of the special use methodology are traced and suggestions for use in similar situations are presented.
