THEORETICAL STUDY OF THE IMPORTANCE OF FABRIC DRAINS IN EARTHFILL CONSOLIDATION

ETUDE THEORIQUE DU ROLE DES DRAINS TEXTILES DANS LA CONSOLIDATION DES REMBLAIS

This paper deals with the theoretical treatment of the consolidation of a fill made of horizontal layers of soil separated by fabrics. The calculations are made with the assumption that the height of the fill is small as compared to its width. Equations governing this phenomenon are written for two different cases: the thickness of the draining textile is assumed to be constant; the compressibility of the textile is taken into account. The numerical results obtained in the first case are given and discussed.
