MEMBRANES AND THE BEARING CAPACITY OF ROADBASES

A simple model for describing the behavior of a membrane under roadbases of small road under construction was developed. In the model only vertical equilibrium is respected, the load transferred through the roadbase is derived from the Boussinesq solution, the soil is replaced by a system of springs and the membrane is assumed to behave linear elastic. This model was developed to estimate the applicability of membranes to improve the bearing capacity of the subsoil.
