Static, Temporary, and Dynamic Speed Limit Information for In-Vehicle Speed Assistance Systems

Previous research shows that dynamic in-vehicle speed assistance systems can contribute to road traffic safety and shock waves mitigation. One of the important prerequisites for such systems is the availability of up-to-date and reliable information on static, temporary and dynamic speed limits in the vehicle. This paper presents a classification of speed limits, and addresses the data provision chains for the mentioned speed limit categories from source to end-user, and identifies issues that need to be solved for a future large-scale implementation of speed assistance systems.
