Piers of the eight-lane l-205 bridge currently under construction over the Columbia River between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington, are described. The two main channels piers are constructed in deep cofferdams, about 96 ft. below design high water, and involve massive seal pours. Twelve other piers are founded on steel bearing piles and include bell-shaped bases poured within reusable metal forms. The smaller of these one-piece forms weighs 350 tons, the larger 500 tons.
