A TEST PROCEDURE AND ANALYSIS OF RESILIENT MODULUS FOR HIGHWAY SOILS

Recently there has been concern shown that flexible pavements constructed on fine grained soils of semi-cohesive to cohesionless properties are subjected to high deflections, resulting in premature fatigue cracking of the asphalt pavement. A research project was initiated to develop a practical and efficient means of testing to find the resilient modulus of subgrade soils which can be used as the elastic modulus constant of soil in pavement design procedures. Discussed in the paper are the project's approaches to the development and use of a test procedure and test device, and the associated problems encountered.
