THE RAILWAY'S CHANCES WITH PASSENGER TRAFFIC

DIE CHANCEN DER EISENBAHN IM PERSONENVERKEHR

With continuously growing auto ownership and the modernization of the road system, the mobility of the population in the Federal Republic of Germany has improved considerably in the last decade. The railway has not contributed to this higher mobility. In-depth studies show that the attraction of a means of transport grows as its speed increases and it can be concluded that one of the reasons for the railway's lack of popularity among travellers is that the journey time is longer by rail than by road.
