NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CONCRETE BASE FOR RESURFACING THE DRESDEN-EISENACH MOTORWAY

For resurfacing the motorway Dresden-Eisenach (A7) between junctions Dresden-Altstadt and turnoff Deutschenbora a lean concrete mix was placed, for resurfacing the existing old concrete surfacing, with a varying thickness of 0.15 to 0.46 M, 0.20 M on average, which apart from acting as a roadbase layer, had to even out the variations in level. Technological considerations carried out before the work began showed that construction with bulldozer and no formwork should produce considerable advantages, as against traditional construction methods with finishers between formwork; in particular a considerable increase in work output was expected. The completed construction confirms these results fully. After a working-in period and a systematic assessment of initial difficulties as regards maintaining the prescribed levels, the required level tolerances of +- 2 cm were maintained. /TRRL/
