THE BEHAVIOUR OF DRAMMEN CLAY UNDER CYCLIC LOADING

A model for the behaviour of clay under static and cyclic loading is developed, based on existing test results for drammen clay. The static part of the model is an adapted version of 'modified cam clay'. The effects of cyclic loading are described in terms of a single fatigue parameter, namely the pore-water pressure generated by cyclic loading. The cyclic part of the model comprises three basic formulae, and contains only four parameters. It has been formulated throughout in terms of effective-stress and strain invariants, and can be applied to arbitrary loading histories, for clay elements with arbitrary initial states or consolidation histories.(a) /TRRL/
