MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES AND MATERIALS

PROPIEDADES MECANICAS DE LAS MEZCLAS BITUMINOSAS Y SUS MATERIALES

The mechanical properties of bituminous mixtures are studied with particular reference to plastic deformation. Firstly, the general problem of the strength of the mixtures, is examined, which has taken a particular importance as a result of the appearance of tracking from wheels. Then the different external causes of deterioration are examined for flexible surfacings, which are, in the case of tracking, the axle load, the intensity of heavy traffic, the duration and the nature of the load, the temperature of the surfacing, contact pressure of the tyres and leakage of oil or fuel. /TRRL/
