INTEGRATED SERVICE FOR LONG-DISTANCE PASSENGER TRAFFIC

INTEGRIERTES BEDIENUNGSSYSTEM FUER DEN SCHIEHENPERSONENFERNVERKEHR

Since the last World War the railway has lost its position of leader in the long-distance passenger traffic field. At the present time the private car accounts for more than 80 percent of the market and the railway for about 9 percent. Long-distance passenger transport on the DB is to be made far more attractive over the coming years, especially in 2nd class. The main features of the new Intercity offer are journey times reduced by 22 percent in 2nd class, and quicker and more frequent (one per hour) services, and more direct links.
