THE PRESTRESSING FORCE IN THE PRESTRESSED-CONCRETE SLEEPER

Prestressed-concrete sleepers are units subjected to extremely high loads, one of the most important elements for the load-carrying capacity being their prestressing force. Losses of prestressing force between 15 and 30 p.c. were found to be within the limits assumed after a maximum service life of 13 years for sleepers made by the immediate bond method. Influences extremely reducing the prestressing force are therefore not likely to exist.
