Outline of Shinkansen High-Speed Test Train Type E955 (FASTECH360Z)

This article outlines the difficulties involved in engineering the recent Shinkansen test train type E955 (FASTECH360Z) due to switching between Shinkansen-specific rails and non-Shinkansen rails. The aims that coincided with increasing Shinkansen speeds were ensuring the train's reliability, increasing comfort from even previous levels, and increasing the train's compatibility with the environment. The new design provides increased electrical output with decreasing weight and size, a modified bogie setup, modified current collection with a pantograph, and better torque and brake distribution. Reliability was increased by improved braking, bogie monitoring, and improving on snow damage control. Comfort and environmental concerns were addressed by electromagnetic actuators, internal quietness measures, and interior design on the one hand, and noise suppression and ground vibration control on the other.
