This is a discussion of what steps should be taken to move as much as 90,000 of Jet A 1 type kerosene (Dangerous Materials Class 1) to the aircraft. The building of new large-volume airfield refuellers is described. In the last 3 years, the structural characteristics of the medium-size wide-bodied airliners McDonnell Douglas DC 10, Lockheed Tristar, and Airbus A-300, entailed the construction of a new category of low-profile airfield refuelling semitrailers with 60,000 to 70,000 1 capacity. These refuellers with a height of only approx 2.65 m and a width of up to 3.3 m are capable of supplying normal jet airliners, such as the DC-8 and 707, or by using 2 vehicles, of refuelling the 747. A Low-low profile 2.55 m high semitrailer is currently being constructed. The somewhat lighter semi-trailers can be towed by mass-produced heavy-duty tractors built for long haul trucking.
