DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS GOOD FOR RO/RO CONCEPTS--MUCH STILL TO BE DONE REGARDING COMPETITIVENESS ON LONG-TERM

Regarding prospects, certain areas are developing encouragingly in the ro/ro trade. These include the Caribbean and central Latin American area and also western Africa. However, in developing countries the problem of return cargo is considerable, but the BORO concept may have useful application. Turning to car carriers--which system should be chosen? What are the advantages of the ro/ro concept? Article discusses the present status and also prospects. World ro/ro cargo fleet as of January 1978 are also covered on pages 9-10, 27 of this issue.
