PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF LOADOMETERS

This paper describes laboratory and field test results carried out on Wilcox loadometers, currently being used by the Department of Main Roads, Tasmania, Australia. The laboratory tests were carried out in an attempt to ascertain possible areas of error in order to recommend the means, if feasible, of overcoming or reducing any errors that might be found. The use of portable ramps for the field testing was restricted as much as possible and test weighings were mainly undertaken at permanent loadometer sites. It was concluded that results obtained should conform to existing regulation requirements provided correct procedures are used and sufficient care is taken by the operators. /Author/TRRL/
