Model tests on compensation grouting

The process of compensation grouting has been investigated in a model test. 10 tests have been performed in cylindrical sand model of 0.9 m diameter and a height of 0.84 m. Various densities and grout mixtures were tested. Results showed that for the type of sand used, the shape of the 'fractures' is rather insensitive to the parameters varied; all tests resulted in an irregular shape relatively close to the injection point. The efficiency of the process depends to a large extend on the density of the sand and to a lesser extend to the bleeding of the grout during and after injection.
