Alcohol and drug effects on driving skills are of major concern in traffic accident research, and a significant part of the research at the traffic accident research unit is devoted to this. This research is oriented towards three areas: 1) investigation of the effects of alcohol and drugs on psycho-motor skills related to driving (laboratory studies in association with the department of pharmacology, University of Sydney); 2) drink-driving education evaluation (information and attitude-change campaigns); and 3) data collection, to find out to what extent people drive and/or are involved in traffic crashes after taking alcohol or other drugs.
