EVALUATION OF CONCRETE ADDITIVES ACCORDING TO THE GUIDELINES FOR TESTING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CONCRETE ADDITIVES

Concrete additives can be divided into 6 effectiveness groups: plasticiser, air-entrainer, densifier, retarder, accelerator and as an aid to grouting ability when used for grouting up post-tensioning cable ducts. In order that these additives can be used and behave in accordance with their alleged characteristics, the above guidelines were published in October 1974, by the Institute for Construction Technology, Berlin. The guidelines contain information about the production of concrete, (cement, additive, aggregates, water, batching mixing, temperature, plain concrete and concrete with additives), about the testing of the 6 effectiveness groups and the reporting on the tests. The author comments in detail on the guidelines, referring to general codes of practice such as DIN 1045 or DIN 1164. Comprehensive references to the literature especially other relevant guidelines complete the work. /TRRL/
