GEOMETRIC ROAD DESIGN STANDARDS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SYMPOSIUM ON THE METHODS OF DRAFTING GEOMETRIC ROAD DESIGN STANDARDS

SYMPOSIUM SUR LES METHODES D'ELABORATION DES NORMES GEOMETRIQUES ROUTIERES

The proceedings of the symposium held in May 1976, in Denmark, contains the summaries of the 44 reports presented, discussions of each of the 6 sessions of the symposium, reports of the chairmen of each session, and the conclusions and recommendations reached. The introductory session outlines the history of the standards in member countries and highlights the aims of the symposium; it also contains a summary of the methods used to set up geometric road design standards in OECD countries. Session 2 examines the relations between geometric standards, performance, driver behaviour and traffic. In session 3 a study is made of the complex relations existing between geometric standards and road safety. Session 4 highlights the economic implications of the standards at the planning and general policy level. Session 5 deals with the interrelation of the standards and road classification drawing attention to the methodological aspect of standard drafting. /TRRL/
