Low-Noise Road Surfaces: European State of the Art

This article summarizes the current knowledge and practice in Europe about tire/road noise and the use of road surfaces to control road traffic noise with emphasis on asphalt pavements. The performances of porous asphalt and thin layers are discussed. Further improvements are sought by testing 2-layer porous asphalt and poro-elastic pavements.
