Transed 2001. Towards Safety, Independence and Security. 9th International Conference on Mobility and Transport for Elderly and Disabled People

The international conferences on Mobility and Transport for Elderly and Disabled People have been held for over twenty years. This series of conferences was initiated under the general auspices of the Transport Research Board of US National Research Council by Professor William G. Bell and Professor Norman Ashford in 1977. The 1st International Conference on Mobility and TRANSport for Elderly and Disabled People took place in Cambridge in 1978 year. Since that time they have been held every three years in different countries of the world. TRANSED is now the premier international event on accessible transport issues. The main theme of the 9th International Conference TRANSED 2001 held in Warsaw is "Towards Safety, Independence and Security". In recent years a great deal of research has been done to make transport accessible for elderly and disabled people. But still much has to be done to provide safe, independent and secure transport services for drivers, passengers and pedestrians with mobility handicaps.
