Promoting Intelligent Transportation Systems: A Public Awareness Plan for San Francisco

SFgo, San Francisco's integrated transportation management system, will help make San Francisco safer and more pedestrian friendly, benefit and encourage the use of mass transit, calm traffic and help reconnect the City’s neighborhoods. Creating support for the program, the work it does and the benefits derived, as well as making information available how and when people want it will be the most important role of the Public Awareness Plan. Public awareness tools will inform communities about SFgo projects as well as define the benefits, costs and funding needs associated with upgrading outdated transportation infrastructure. The Public Awareness Plan will take into consideration the varying levels of knowledge and interest in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) as well as the different priorities and issues of the community. Balancing the needs of residents, property owners, businesses, commuters, and visitors to the City can be challenging. Extensive community input was obtained in developing the Public Awareness Plan in order to gain a good understanding of how SFgo might enhance the quality of life within this unique, vibrant, ethnically-rich city.
