WTS: Transporting Careers - One Woman at a Time
This article offers a look at the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) 25 years after its founding, and describes its origins and current activities. Founded by Christine J. Vineis, a young railroad lobbyist, to enhance professional opportunities for women in transportation, it is now an international organization with a membership of more than 3,600 professionals, both men and women. WTS provides mentoring and networking functions, and promotes the advancement of women through advocacy. WTS is also assembling data on women's participation in the field, both in the U.S. and abroad. Studies show that women are chronically under-represented in the field. Included is a list of WTS National and International chapters.
