A LOW COST SOLUTION TO AN ARTERIAL CO-ORDINATION PROBLEM USING A CABLELESS LINKING METHOD

The Department of Main Roads, New South Wales developed a compact unit called a "M.A.S.C.O.T." and this paper describes the development of a unit by Main Roads Department, Queensland, based on similar lines to the M.A.S.C.O.T. but using more modern electronic devices. The concept of being able to easily install "co-ordinating units" in groups of adjacent traffic signal controllers without having to provide linking cable is certainly an attractive one. It is for this reason that the development of this unit was undertaken to provide an interim solution to a traffic problem. /TRRL/
