STRENGTH-STRUCTURE RELATIONSHIPS OF CEMENT PASTE MATERIALS. PART 1. METHODS AND BASIC DATA FOR STUDYING PHASE COMPOSITION AND MICROSTRUCTURE

This report is part 1 of the work on the analysis of strength-structure relationships that has been carried out for several years at cbi. It describes the various methods that have been used to examine phase composition and microstructure, in particular quantitative mineral analysis by x-ray diffractometry, porosimetry by sorption gravimetry and other methods, and structure examination by scanning electron microscopy. Some basic data are given in order to illustrate the general character of the results obtained. Data from the examination of microstructural details are shown, and their relationships with the fracture mechanics and strength of various cement paste materials are discussed in some detail. /TRRL/
