ANALYSIS OF THE RELIABILITY OF TRAFFIC MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS. PILOT STUDY: TRAFFIC ANALYZER DTA-2

ANALYS AV TILLFOERLITLIGHETEN HOS TRAFIKMAETNINGSSYSTEM. DELSTUDIE: TRAFIKANALYSATOR DTA-2

The measurement accuracy of the traffic analyzer DTA-2 was studied. The present transducer consists of three rubber tubes placed on the road. The study aims at investigating errors in speed measurement caused by the rubber tube being moved by the passage of vehicles as well as problems associated with the pneumatic system which is made up of the transducer and the rubber tubes. Moreover, the results of an investigation regarding the visibility of the rubber tubes and its influence on speed is presented. A survey of alternative transducers was carried out. The coaxial cable was shown to be the best alternative. A test using the coaxial cable for axle counting was also carried out. /TRRL/
