Spherical ammonium nitrate for gas generators
Ammonium nitrate (AN) is a suitable component (oxidizer) in the formulation of propellants, explosives and gas generators. For these applications spherical particles with exactly predetermined mean particle size and particle size distribution are required. Besides there are different demands on the phase stability and/or the purity of the particulate AN-product. A phase stabilization of AN can be achieved for example by adding certain amounts of zinc-, copper- or nickel oxide as a reacting agent to the AN-meltings. These additives are showing different effects on the phase transition temperatures. If the phase stabilization is not of highest priority the additives can be omitted from the production process to get pure, dry ammonium nitrate particles. It is possible to produce these particles with the above mentioned requirements by crystallization of atomized AN-meltings. For the covering abstract see ITRD E126782.
