TRAFFIC PERFORMANCE AT JUNCTIONS WITH PRIORITY ROADS

TRAFIKKAVVIKLING I FORKJOERSREGULERTE KRYSS

This report describes methods of calculating traffic performance at unsignalized junctions where the major road is given right-of-way and the minor road has either stop signs or yield signs. These types of junctions are quite common in Norway today. The ultimate goal for this research has been to evaluate and eventually improve on the existing calculation methods. The main factors considered are capacity, delays, queue lengths and to some extent, traffic safety. The comparison of calculations and observations is based on observations and analyses of traffic performance in 14 high volume hours in 9 junctions on the main roads near Trondheim during the summer of 1973.
