INTERACTION BETWEEN PILE AND SOIL

SAMVIRKE MELLOM PEL OG JORD

This study is concerned with the development of engineering procedures for the determination of the displacements of friction piles subjected to axial and lateral long term loads. The procedures are developed at two levels, one simplified for estimates by hand-calculation, and the other aimed at computer applications. The procedures are based on an elastic spring-support formulation of the soil-pile interaction. Through some nominal stress field considerations the equivalent spring constants are expressed by geotechnical parameters for strength and compressibility of the soil. The author has succeeded in establishing some dimensionless p-y and t-x curves, in this thesis called pr-v and t-w curves due to the orientation of the reference axis. The numerical examples quoted are quite encouraging with respect to the applicability of the procedures. /TRRL/
