ADJUSTMENT OF A PICTURE PROCESSOR FOR THE TECHNICAL EVALUATION OF SOILS AND CRUSHED MATERIALS

Measurements of soil and crushed stone particles were carried out by means of the picture processor picap. The measurements comprised, for particles in a stable position, projection area, perimeter, length and width and furthermore mechanical calculation and plotting of the relative width of projection as a function of its length and of relative width related to perimeter and area. The results were compared with ocular microscope measurements and magnified measurements of photocopies. Also area measurements of photo silhouettes of particles were carried out. In relation to the statistical quality the correspondence between the fast picap-measurements and the others was satisfactory. The measurements require a distribution of the particles into fractions. A system for this is presented. /TRRL/
