TRAFFIC CONTROL EQUIPMENT IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT (PILOT FILE)

EQUIPEMENTS DE REGULATION DE TRAFIC EN MILIEU URBAIN (DOSSIER PILOTE)

The aim of this file is to describe the method of setting up a preliminary project for traffic control equipment in urban areas and to illustrate with an example the nature of the documents to be drafted. Details are given of the characteristics of area traffic control of traffic signals capable of controlling the whole urban system: a minimum of 30 to 40 junctions seem necessary for the installation of a central operating post which is permanently under personnel surveillance. The file is in three parts: (1) composition of the preliminary project, (2) manual for the project engineer, (3) example file (based on the traffic control of the town of Caen). /TRRL/
