Behavior of rigidly framed earth retaining structures: an experimental and numerical study

An instrumentation program was undertaken to monitor the movements of a multi-story Hillside parking-structure exhibiting signs of large deformation and severe structural distress. About four and half years of measurements indicated the existence of a complex soil-structure interaction between the rigidly framed building and the retained soil mass. A summary of selected instrumentation and monitoring results is presented, along with a numerical study. For the covering abstract see ITRD E125180.
