Stability of axially symmetric slopes in soil engineering

Stability of axially symmetric slopes has been studied in this paper using the method of characteristics. Stability of slope of both sides of embankments and excavations part of which is circular can be analyzed by this method. The results have been compared with the result of 2-D analysis assuming plane strain conditions. Comparison indicates that such assumption is unsafe in design of outer slope and too conservative for design of inner slopes in axial symmetry. For the covering abstract see ITRD E125180.
