Control measures for vibration induced by metro trains

With the continuous expansion of central cities, metro has become a primary choice to ease heavy traffic. At the same time, the influences of the vibration and noise induced by the metro trains have become more and more serious. In many cities, the damages of buildings and litigations of the people near metro lines have occurred in China. Reducing the vibration and noise is one of the pivotal problems to sustain the development of underground transportation. The sources of the vibration and noise induced by the metro trains are mainly the vehicle, track and the interaction between them. The vibration induced by the train first causes the vibration of track structure as well as tunnel structure, and then, through the around strata, inducing the second vibration and noise to the surrounding environment. The control measures should be practiced in many aspects: decreasing the vibration source, isolating the vibration propagation path and setting insulator to the building. As for sources and propagation path, track structure is both a vibration source and a propagation route. As reported, the vibration due to track structure occupies 35 percent of the total vibration. So an appropriate selection to the type and design parameter of track structure is one of the effective measures to decrease the vibration and noise. In addition to the common control measures to the track structure, many types of track components have been developed. The principles and effects of several components such as the rail of decreasing vibration and noise, WJ-2 fastener, DTIII fastener and Cologeegg are introduced. Many new types of track also have been developed. The structure forms and principles of several types of track are discussed. Each control measure has its disadvantage and limitation; new types of track still need to be developed.
