Evaluating Urban Dynamic Vehicle Routing and Scheduling with Time Windows Using Traffic Information

This paper presents the VRPTW-D (Vehicle Routing and scheduling Problems with Time Windows-Dynamic) model with real time information on travel times. The VRPTW-D model showed better performance on a test road network than the VRPTW-F (Vehicle Routing and scheduling Problems with Time Windows-Forecasted) model in terms of the reduction of total costs, in particular the delay penalty. The VRPTW-D model successfully produced better routing and scheduling to avoid heavy congested links on the road network. In addition multiple depots were effective to reduce the total costs including the construction and maintenance costs of depots.
