Energy Saving and CO2 Emission Reduction Effects of a Maglev Highway

Roads are infrastructure fundamental to all human activities, and that permit private door-to-door transportation. Considering the oil situation, automobile transportation must conserve energy in the future. The author is studying the Maglev Highway System that will carry automobiles on pallets at high speeds. This system will provide the following performance benefits. 1) Because there will be no contact surface between the road surface and the moving part, roads will be undamaged, permitting the installation of solar panels on entire road surfaces. 2) Levitating automobiles will eliminate rolling resistance, so that even including the energy used for levitation, the system will basically save energy at medium to high speeds. 3) As roads are constructed, every automobile will be able to use them all. The results of the research show that when, under a number of appropriate premises, Maglev Highways for passenger cars have been constructed parallel (along) to expressways throughout Japan and the rate of conversion of use to Maglev Highways on expressway routes is 50%, the reduction effects will be extremely huge.
