Dual Mode Lane Control System(DLCS) for ETC in Korea

Several ETC companies in Korea have developed two high-speed wireless systems to provide with ITS service especially ETC application. At this stage, there are two types of systems: the one is IR DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) system which consists of the control unit and OBE(On Board Equipment) and the other one is DSRC system using radio frequency between RSE(Road Side Equipment) and OBE. KHC(Korea Highway Corporation) decided to deploy the integrated DLCS (Dual Lane Control System) as the first trial in the world. The DLCS supports two types of OBEs in one toll gate in Hi-Pass system which is the name of Korean ETC system. This paper explains the architecture, protocol, and interfaces of DLCS(Dual mode Lane Control System) and how to operate two systems between IR/OBE and RF/OBE. It also analyses the characteristics of this system.
