Conduct of Free Mobility Assistance Project

Japan now faces a decline in its population of young people as a result of the aging of the population and a falling birth rate plus a shortage of care givers for elderly people, creating a demand for measures to establish a Universal Society in which everyone uses their own capabilities to assist each other. In response, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has, with the support of companies in various industries, combined their knowledge and set its sights on society ten years in the future to undertake the Free Mobility Assistance Project: a project to construct an environment permitting free mobility necessary to participate in society. This report presents an outline of the free mobility assistance system and the state of progress of the project.
