Benefit Quantification of Collective Traveler Information System: Focusing On VMS Investment over National Highway Network

Recently, the project of RTMS (Rural Traffic Management System) has been constructed over the national highway network covering about 600 kilometers in Korea. This length will be longer and longer as times go by and the need to quantify benefits for RTMS has risen. The objective of this paper is to propose model and process for evaluating the effect of traffic information. More specifically, the effect is estimated through analyzing the relation among the volume, the diversion ratio, and the effect of traffic information. The IDAS has been used for this together with the regression model to find a relationship among them. The result of statistical test showed that model’s coefficient were significant by showing the R-square is 0.862, and adjusted is 0.856, respectively.
