Automatic Generation of Traffic Management Strategies

The cooperative, harmonized and effective use of traffic strategies across different ATMS is a wide and complex problem that, as a rule, requires much preliminary planning effort from the traffic engineer or system operator in order to find the optimal strategies as an appropriate response for the most relevant / critical situations. Problematical are the unpredictable, i.e. sudden and unexpected traffic incidents and disturbances, as it is usually not possible to plan custom-made strategies for them. Nowadays, for this wide range of cases, there is only very few tool support available for the operator. The objective of the proposed concept is an automatic online reaction to detected situations like incidents. Traffic management strategies will be generated automatically and provided to the operator who can check their plausibility and trigger their operation. Depending on the level of automation, strategies are built from existing measures or new measures will be generated automatically and combined to new strategies.
