All Automatic Tolling with Contactless Cards
Inline with the Turkish General Directorate of Highways’ goal of achieving predominantly automatic tolling in the upcoming years, a contactless card based, all automatic tolling system has been implemented nationwide. The system coined with the acronym KGS provides for both subscriber mode and electronic purse charging using contactless cards complying with the ISO 14443A standard. The system will supplement the already installed nationwide ETC system, OGS. The technical features of the system are addressed including such issues as the card security mechanism and violation enforcement. Information is also provided on the initial experiences after the system was commissioned on January 26th 2005.
