Quantitative Evaluation of Inter-Vehicle Communication Effect in Highway Transportation from Micro and Macro Views
This article proposes an approach for enhancing traffic safety by reducing delay time for safe braking for individual vehicles. The authors describe long distance inter-vehicle communication (LDIVC), a way to improve inter-vehicle communication, resulting in improved safety and reduced congestion. The authors develop an equation for calculating delay time from a micro view. For alleviating congestion in a simplified traffic network, which consists of a primary route with high capacity and an alternative route with low capacity, short distance inter-vehicle communication (SDIVC) is proposed. In addition, the authors offer a set of formulas for evaluating traffic throughput comparatively from a macro view.
